The increasingly health conscious customer base has forced Wendy’s to revamp their salad line. In addition to the revamp of their garden side salad menu with a lot of fresh veggies, two new salads namely Asian cashew chicken and BBQ ranch chicken salads are being added.
The Asian salad would have freshly-sliced cucumbers, red peppers and fire-roasted edamame (a preparation of immature soybeans in the pod) and the barbecue chicken salad likely to have fire-roasted corn and freshly-chopped tomatoes.
Sliced cucumbers, red peppers and other 5 veggie ingredients are likely to be included into their garden side salad menu, understandably they would stick to their portion sizes. The salads would be available in full and half portion sizes. Initial press release suggest the pricing of these salads could be around $6 for full size portions.
Wendy’s is certainly moving in the right direction with their menu change considering the fact that Wendy’s current salad line contains 60% more fat per portion than the new salad line. The fast food chains are finally waking up to the reality. Dominos and Dunkin have started to offer gluten-free foods and other eateries have started to include organic, farm fresh, and low-calorie foods.Having said that, the industry still has a long way to go in serving quality food with lower fat content at an affordable price range.
